This year's Symposium on Intersections of STEM & the Humanities is centered around the theme of “Histories of Science & Technology in Germany and beyond.”
"Intersections" complements the Goethe-Institut “Land of Inventors, Germany” exhibit on display throughout March in Norm Asbjornson Hall. “Land of Inventors” (aka: “Erfinderland” auf Deutsch) brings to light the various ways scientific experimentation, technological ingenuity, and human reason have engaged with specific historical challenges. Since many of the inventions in the exhibit extend beyond Germany, our symposium also highlights transnational and interdisciplinary influences that have shaped German cultures of research and innovation. To that end, the 2019 Intersections symposium features a roundtable with representatives from the Goethe-Institut, DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and more. In addition, we are excited to host three interdisciplinary research panels which share the latest research from the fields of STEM and the Humanities. Each panel seeks to explain or investigate questions of technology, science and research landscapes in Germany and beyond.
